Privacy policy and terms of use

This page is about the Skipper up website (skipperup.app) — the pages you are reading now. The app has a policy and terms of its own, which cover your vessel details, your position, your account and your payments: the app’s privacy policy and terms of use. Using the website means you accept what is set out here.

1. What the website collects

   As little as a website can. It has no sign-up, no form that sends anything anywhere, no analytics, no advertising trackers and no cookies.

   • Your choice of language: If you pick a language in the switch, the choice is saved in your browser (local storage), so the site opens in that language next time. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us; clearing the site’s data in your browser removes it. If you never pick one, the site goes by your browser’s language and saves nothing.
   • The “Try it” demo: What you type into it — a vessel name, an MMSI — only fills in the script on your own screen. It is not stored and not sent anywhere. Reading aloud uses a voice installed on your own device; the words are not sent to any server.
   • Technical logs: As with any website, the servers that host it may record your IP address and browser type in technical logs, for operation and security only.

2. Third parties

   The website loads nothing from third parties: its fonts, images and scripts all come from the website itself. Its hosting and infrastructure providers (currently Vercel) process the technical logs above on our behalf, only in order to serve the site. We do not sell or pass on information about visitors — there is none to pass on — unless the law, a court order or a competent authority requires it.

   The buttons that open the app lead to a separate address, where the app’s own policy applies.

3. Prices and purchases

   The prices on the website are there for information. Nothing can be bought on the website itself: the free trial and the passes are taken out inside the app, and the price, the terms of payment and the terms of cancellation that apply are the ones shown in the app at the time of purchase.

4. What the website is, and is not

   Skipper up is an aid for preparing and practising marine radio calls. It does not replace training, a radio operator’s licence, the instructions of the authorities or seamanship. The “Try it” demo is an illustration: it carries a fixed example position and must never be used to make a real call.

   The website is provided as is. We accept no liability for any damage, direct or indirect, arising from its use, from its being unavailable or from inaccurate information on it.

   All rights reserved to SkipperUp. The website’s design, text, images and code may not be copied, reproduced, distributed or used commercially without the prior written consent of the rights holder.

6. Changes to this policy

   We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date of the last update at its head.
